Election Day 2012

This morning we learned about the voting process, the states that our family members live in, and the two presidential candidates.

2012 Presidential Candidates: Barak Obama and Mitt Romney.

We printed off a sample ballot for Jake, and when we went to vote he was able to sit in his own booth and fill in the circles that he chose.  It was a really good way for him to feel involved and a good hands on learning experience.

*Update 11/7/2012: We will be praying for President Obama and this country during the next four years.

First Week Complete!

To finish out our first full week of preschool, we decided to take a trip to the library, and then head to the park to eat a pizza supper and do some playing and learning.  It was a beautiful fall day and the colors were at their prime (for South Dakota that is).

First Day of Preschool 2012

We started our day with a trip to the zoo.

Using binoculars to view the Rhinos.

Hearing Aids. :)

The binoculars made an impression.

He's got the farmer thing down.

I couldn't resist those tears.

Next was lunch and playing at the park!

A first day of school tradition.  What will this picture look like in 10 years??

We went home and sat down to start our lessons while Celia napped.  Look at that silly face.

Letter A
The first day of school was a huge success!  Jake learned how to write the letter A and the number 1.

We are so excited to watch Jake learn and grow this school year.  His hunger for knowledge is contagious.  Celia has so much energy and love for life, that I'm sure she will want to be right in there with us, doing whatever it is we are doing.  We are looking forward to what the year holds for us.  A little nervous too...

Lord, give us the wisdom we need to cultivate a love for learning in our children's hearts.  Help them to see the world around them as their classroom, and help us to take every opportunity to teach them the essentials of every day life and eternity.  Keep us patient, gracious, and loving.  Protect our home and family from thoughts that might discourage us, and help us to keep our focus on you.

Learning to Read a Map

Listening (so seriously) to Papa explain what a treasure map is all about.

Packing their bags for their trip. :)

The Map! (made by Papa)

Ready to go on a treasure hunt!

Checking the map over.

Celia got to be in charge of carrying the map.

Off they go to find treasure!

Letter F - Fishing

F is for Fishing.
We read "Piggy and Dad Go Fishing" by David Martin.

Then Jake got to use stickers to put together a fishing scene.

Jake said, "I excited to go fishing at da river...that will be fun!" :)

Snow Day!

Strangely, we haven't had much snow this winter. It's surprising that the snow waited until February to really show itself. Both children were so intrigued with the snow...Celia especially! She is one tough cookie - she just stood there taking the cold.

Eric has been so excited all winter to take the children sledding and he jumped at the chance today! It's always funny to see toddlers all bundled up and barely able to move. :)

Sledding for the first time!

Eric pulled all three of us around the block!

He is the best Papa ever!

While sledding was great fun, I think we are all excited for summer!!

Letter F - Fort

F is for Fort.
I forgot to take a picture of the book we read,
but it was called "Nothing To Do" by Douglas Wood.

Our fort was very cozy! Jake thought it was so cool to have a space
all to himself to read his books.

Letter F

Today was President's Day so the Library was closed.
We took the opportunity to look at the letter F and do a fun painting project.

Letter E - Elephant

E is for Elephant
We read "Forget Me Not."

The first day we made elephant masks.
I didn't really mean for them to look so creepy. :)
The children thought they were fun.

The next day we planted Forget Me Not seeds.
I hope they grow!!

Letter F and G combined this coming week...
